We are hosting an SU-wide volunteer training day. 

The day will include the following electives:
  • Trauma training (TABOR College)
  • How to lead a small group
  • How to go from friendly conversations to gospel conversations
  • KidsMin skills – tips for working with Primary aged kids
  • Youth Work – A Way of Being (TABOR College)
  • How to facilitate a great activity
  • Behaviour Management strategies that work
  • SU’s Ministries for at-risk young people (Info session)
Each elective runs for 1.5 hours and you will be able to choose 3 electives to be involved in.
Who: Any Active SU Volunteers and Church partners

Working with young people who have experienced trauma
During this 1 1/2 hr session we will cover:
 
– What children need
– Understanding trauma
– The Stress Model of crisis which explains the important role we play in helping young people work through the crisis in a way that is a constructive, learning experience
– Behaviour Support Techniques

Training by Sally Howe, SU Discipleship Catalyst. 
Are you wondering where to start in sharing Jesus in a relevant, hope-filled way with
others? Hope Groups are a simple, powerful small group format to share life together and
the hope of Jesus with our friends. In this 1.5 hour session, you will learn the why and how of
running your own group.
– Gain confidence in reading the Bible with others
– You’ll learn a process of how to pray and invite people
– Pick up effective discipleship tools to use with existing groups

Learn or refresh all the skills needed to safely run water-based activities on SU programs. SUPing, snorkelling, kayaking and rafting.

We will be covering what is required to run a water-based activity as well as having some time to get out on/in the water.

Activities will include: SUPing, Snorkelling, Kayaking and Rafting

When: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Saturday 6th November 2021 

Where: Point Peron (exact details TBC)

 Preference will be given to volunteers serving on Leavers Ningaloo, Young Adults Ningaloo, Beach Camp and Junior Beach Camp.

Essential orientation for all SU WA Volunteers and all staff and volunteers are required to attend every three years.

Usually run at the SU WA Office (unless otherwise specified) – 7 Irvine Street, Bayswater.

Regional volunteers can join Zoom enabled sessions or exclusive regional Zoom session as listed below. Please register 4 business days before the session to allow us to mail you the Orientation pack.

We provide Bronze Medallion, Bronze Requal and SU Surf Upgrade training throughout the year.

Note: the Surf Upgrade is only recognised by SU WA and is a necessary qualification when running open water activities on Scripture Union programs. Only SU Volunteers with a current Bronze Medallion can complete the Surf Upgrade.

Please note that Bronze Full Course and Requal training will be delivered on separate days unless we have additional trainers. Be sure to select the correct date for the required training.

Bronze Medallion Full Course & Training will be held at Bayswater Waves from 9am – 5pm.

Bronze Medallion Surf Upgrade is held at Trigg South Beach from 8:30am – 11:30am, followed by Requalification Training at Bayswater Waves from 12:30pm – 5:30pm. 
 
SUWA have limited trainers and sessions will be closed once capacity (10 people per session) has been reached. If you cannot attend the sessions delivered by SU WA we advise you to visit Royal Life Saving WA’s website to view their upcoming training for Bronze Medallion:
