– Understanding trauma
– The Stress Model of crisis which explains the important role we play in helping young people work through the crisis in a way that is a constructive, learning experience

Training by Sally Howe, SU Discipleship Catalyst. 
Are you wondering where to start in sharing Jesus in a relevant, hope-filled way with
others? Hope Groups are a simple, powerful small group format to share life together and
the hope of Jesus with our friends. In this 1.5 hour session, you will learn the why and how of
running your own group.
– Gain confidence in reading the Bible with others
– You’ll learn a process of how to pray and invite people
– Pick up effective discipleship tools to use with existing groups

SU WA’s relational approach leads us to use small groups in many different ministry contexts. We encourage others to use this powerful transformational tool and offer training and a handbook that gives people the information and skills needed to lead small groups effectively.

Essential orientation for all SU WA Volunteers and all staff and volunteers are required to attend every three years.

Usually run at the SU WA Office (unless otherwise specified) – 7 Irvine Street, Bayswater.

Regional volunteers can join exclusive regional Zoom session as listed below. Please register 4 business days before the session to allow us to mail you the Orientation pack.

Upcoming Sessions:

  • Tue 21st, 6.30-9.30pm 
  • Wed 22nd, 7.30-9pm – ZOOM for regional volunteers
  • Sat 25th, 9.00am-12.00pm 

Cost: $5 donation


We provide Bronze Medallion, Bronze Requal and SU Surf Upgrade training throughout the year.

Note: the Surf Upgrade is only recognised by SU WA and is a necessary qualification when running open water activities on Scripture Union programs. Only SU Volunteers with a current Bronze Medallion can complete the Surf Upgrade.

Please note that Bronze Full Course and Requal training will be delivered on separate days unless we have additional trainers. Be sure to select the correct date for the required training.

Bronze Medallion Full Course & Training will be held at Bayswater Waves from 9am – 5pm (unless otherwise stated).

Bronze Medallion Surf Upgrade is held at Trigg South Beach from 8:30am – 11:30am, followed by Requalification Training at Bayswater Waves from 12:30pm – 5:30pm (unless otherwise stated). 
SUWA have limited trainers and sessions will be closed once capacity (10 people per session) has been reached. If you cannot attend the sessions delivered by SU WA we advise you to visit Royal Life Saving WA’s website to view their upcoming training for Bronze Medallion:
